Watch Out for that Mold!

Mold Remediation Watch Out for that Mold! Mold Hidden behind wall.

This is a photo of mold that was hidden behind a wall. This home flooded and they opened the wall to discover mold. SERVPRO works closely with testing companies, these companies come out to each job we call them on, they take a small sample of either the mold, or what we may believe is mold or asbestos. They take these samples back to their labs, test them and get back to us with the results. This is how we do our part in making sure that everything is sanitary and safe for our customers homes, and families before we allow them to stay in the home or moved back into their home, depending on the situation.

Be aware of mold, and what signs to look for. This will keep your home and health safe year round.  Molds are fungi that can be found both indoors and outdoors. No one knows how many species of fungi exist but estimates range from tens of thousands to perhaps three hundred thousand or more. Molds grow best in warm, damp, and humid conditions, and spread and reproduce by making spores. Mold spores can survive harsh environmental conditions, such as dry conditions, that do not support normal mold growth. If you have a water loss do not let it sit because mold can grow and grow. The end result of the mold growing behind your walls will be symptoms of sickness.

Smoke Damage

6/2/2017 (Permalink)

Did you know that fires inside your house, next door to your house or even a mile or more away from your house can cause smoke damage to the outside and inside of your home. SERVPRO Santa Ana specializes in smoke damage clean up. We always do our best to accommodate you in your horrible time. We understand that disasters in ones home are a very stressful situation. SERVPRO of Santa Ana has a contents department, this means that when your house floods, or has a fire we come in and pack all of your contents, including furniture. After we pack and load up your belongings we take them to our warehouse and put them into each customers individual vaults. Finally, when we have completely moved everything out of the home, we then go in and clean the smoke damage. We use large sponges and sponge every single wall in the home. We repeat this technique about 3 times or until we can tell the walls are clean and no longer have a strong smoke odor. Once that step is finished, and the construction is done in the home we bring back the cleaned belongs to the home. Each piece of clothing from the fire gets dry cleaned by a restoration dry cleaner, and each piece of contents gets hand cleaned by our professional cleaning crew here at SERVPRO Santa Ana. After we are positive that every piece of the customers important belongings are cleaned we put them in our ozone room to assure none of the items will smell like smoke. The final step in this process is to move the customer back in to their now clean, smoke free home!!

Santa Ana smoke and soot cleanup

6/2/2017 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Santa Ana will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

We Have Moved !!

Commercial We Have Moved !! Our New Building

We are excited to announce that our team has moved to a new location in Santa Ana. We spent the past 6 years in a building about a mile away from our new location. Our old office served us well, and we made great memories there, but we could not be more excited about our new spacious warehouse! As I had mentioned before in a previous blog, a lot of new and exciting events would be coming up for our SERVPRO team, well this is one of them. Also Tom Puorro, along with his family are now complete owners of our franchise. He has also purchased another territory that will be also servicing Santa Ana, Called SERVPRO of Santa Ana North!

While we were happy with our old space, there were several motivating factors to make a move :

SPACE! When we first moved into our last office/warehouse we were small, just starting out, getting our feet wet. Six years later we now have 19 employees and counting. We have also hit our 2 Million mark in our business. Our new office offers more square footage, but more importantly it allowed us to rethink our layout. We were about to start from scratch, knock down walls (what we do best) and put up other walls that better suited our team, our company, and our customers. We now have a new spacious warehouse, with a clean room that has state of the art equipment in it. We can house our customers belongings in their individual vaults, with room to grow. We can not express enough our excitement! More space means more opportunity to service our community.

Our new office is more than just four walls, this is our new home where we will not only make many happy memories between each other but also with our many customers we will have along the way.

Our SERVPRO Family would like to thank everyone for their support through the years and with our move. Our team has been working extra hard to insure that we would be in not only a comfortable place, but a high functioning, spacious place. Also that our customers will continue to be well taken care of.  We would like to invite you to our future ribbon cutting, the date is still to be determined but it is in the plans.

Our new address is 1213 E. Hunter Ave. Santa Ana, CA, 92705

IICRC

5/24/2017 (Permalink)

Here at SERVPRO of Santa Ana we do our part in making sure all of our employees are highly certified and trained. We put them through IICRC training which is an institute of inspection cleaning and restoration certification. Here is a little bit about IICRC and why its important to SERVPRO:

The IICRC is a certification and standard-setting non-profit organization for the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries. In partnership with regional and international trade associates, the IICRC serves more than 25 countries with offices in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

The IICRC standards serve to develop common, industry-accepted language and terminology that enables us to more universally discuss concepts and procedures regarding cleaning, inspection and restoration.

These standards are reviewed and updated at least every five years. Many of these fields, such as the water damage restoration field, change rapidly and those who are certified keep up with the advancement of the science and generally accepted practices of the industry.

Does your Santa Ana Home have Mold?

5/24/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Does your Santa Ana Home have Mold? In Santa Ana, mold can spread through a home in as little as 48 hours.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.

  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.

  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.

  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.

  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.

  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.
